The Perfect Slice

by valerief

It’s been a long few months for me. At the end of this year, I will have attended ten weddings (and declined an eleventh taking place in Mexico on Thanksgiving), completed eight big work projects (six of which were outside New York), and overall spent more time away from home that I expected to at my new job. Over the holidays I am really looking forward to having some downtime; I never thought I would get sick of travel. One thing I miss while away is eating really fantastic pizza. Most other places do not come close to New York-style thin crust pizza. Living in Forest Hills, the local favorite is Nick’s Pizza. Despite not taking reservations nor credit cards, it’s always crowded for a reason. The pizza is that good. Great toppings include the meatball and the pepperoni. Salads to start are tasty and fresh, and the wine selection is also decent. For new residents, pictures on the wall over the booths show how Forest Hills used to look before Austin Street became a congested, chain-store-saturated main drag. DiFara and Grimaldi’s give it a run for its money, but Nick’s definitely holds its own in the pizza rankings (including #7 in this year’s Time Out) and is the best I’ve found so far in Queens. Leave the car at home to avoid foraging for a parking spot and mangia!
