Little Lad’s Basket
by billiek
A quick hop on the 4 train from Union Square and I’m off to Wall Street for another day on the job. Actually, my movements on a Monday morning are far from being described as a “quick hop”, and probably more closely resemble the languid movements of a post-natal bovine; nevertheless, I somehow make it into the cozy anonymity of the NY transit system. My secret weapon: I have a new place in mind for lunch.
The clock strikes 12 (i.e. after the second-by-second countdown, my cell phone finally displays the happy digits *12:00*) and I’m out the door. Just a short trek down Broadway to Cedar Street and my destination reveals itself in all its questionably decorated glory.
Located in the basement of the D.A.’s office, one can pretty safely assume that this atmosphere at Little Lad’s Basket is one-of-a-kind. Unpretentious and comfortable, this is the perfect locale for lunch-breakers longing for a change of pace–temporary as it may be.
A mere $4 grants you access to a fantastically unique and varying selection of vegan fare–as much as you can manage to pile on your plate. Cheap, healthy, delicious food in the middle of the financial district? Little Lad: I’m not worthy.
P.S. Don’t miss the fresh fruit, “yogurt”, and granola section. It’s guaranteed to keep your stomach smiling for days.
