When most people think cop movie in New York, they think of all the cop shows that have been based in Manhattan. Rarely has the genre gone out of Manhattan into the outer boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens.
The movie starring Bruce Willis, Tracy Morgan, and Juan Carlos Hernández, follows 2 cops based in Brooklyn.
The cops can’t seem to get a break, when suddenly they get thrown into a heap of crap in order to retrieve something near and dear to Willis’ character.
Director Kevin Smith says that in this case, it was important to use “the city” as a backdrop to the action. From time to time, the cameras do catch a glimpse of the city.
What makes this post Shop By Subway worthy is a chase scene that leads to an elevated subway platform or “El” for the old school folks. There are also the many bus stops signs that are in view as well.
The movie kept me laughing. There is something in the movie that everyone can relate to.
Just in case you don’t know, NYC students will be expected to pay transit fare going to and from school next year.
Those of us who grew up and went to school in NYC in recent memory are in shock. However, according to a source who shall remain anonymous, this is not a new thing.
“Way” back in the day, students paid half fare by paying in the morning and then having comping back for f*ree with a school pass.
I’m wondering what others are thinking of this? Are other cities already doing this or planning to?
Let me start off by saying that this is not a sponsored post. Its just that I’ve been tied up with the 9 to 5 , (which is lately feeling more like a 7am to 11pm ) that I haven’t been able to do much exploring.
I created an account on Yelp to not only to keep track of the places and vendors that I use, but to say “thank you” to them as well.
So feel free to visit me there as well and happy travels.
Normally, I keep the places that are near and dear to me close to my vest, but after living near Mamajuana’s for a while, I couldn’t resist.
I finally had brunch for the first time at Mamajuana’s this afternoon for a birthday brunch. It has a buffet style brunch with an omelet bar and a variety of selection.
I had an omelet with chorizo in it, but the old school brunch faire also made appearance, eggs benedict, bacon, french toast, as well as beef, chicken and beans and rice.
If you ever need a brunch fix with a bit of flair, come up to beyond the heights.
Pearl Paint is a place that has been a part of my life for at least half of it.
A few weeks ago, I was a search for a frame that can fit my 2nd edition Chicago Neighborhood Map from my recent trip.
I went around to different stores, but they only had metal or wood frames that cost more than the price of the poster.
So I finally went to the frame shop in back of the Main store on Lipsenard Street and got a plastic frame that I could actually carry to the train station and eventually home.
It just goes to show, that sometimes what your looking for is right underneath your nose.
I went to Bubba Gump Shrimp Company yesterday in Times Square for a birthday party. At first when I heard about the venue, lets just say that shrimp is not one of my favorite foods. However, when I saw the menu online, I was reassured by the ribs, pulled pork and chicken choices.
I decided to go with the ribs and they were tasty. I also had some spicy chicken as an appetizer.
They accommodated us, sang “Happy Birthday” to the guest of honor, provided a stool and coloring sheet for another guest.
One of my favorite moments was answering the Trivia questions. The guest of honor nearly got all the questions right.
The next stop on the tale of two ballparks is Wrigley field. Being that this was a day game, crowding on the train was not an issue, until I got to Belmount, a transfer station. I had to get on the Red Line for the one stop, just for the experience.
Once I got out, directions weren’t so obvious, but the line of vendors on the street, helped in leading the way.
I got my ticket from the “Will Call” and went in.
I got a pizza and my drink. The lids for the drinks were a clear several feet away. Luckily, I got my drink covered and was off to my seat.
The game went well. and since I was having such a good time. I splurged for a hot dog and a another drink from my seat.
Once again, Shop by Subway takes its seemingly annual voyage to Chicago. This time, we had to goal of visiting a stadium that isn’t less than a year old.
The first stadium I visited was U.S. Cellular Field, the home of the Chicago White Sox. It was fairly easy to get through on the Red Line, but just like when any team is playing back in Gotham, its best to get on the train early.
Once I got there, all I had to do was follow the crowd to the stadium. I got my ticket in a great location and enjoyed the game.
Unfortunately, the Sox didn’t win that night, but boy was I miffed when “Mr. Perfect” wasn’t there.
Getting back was not as smooth as getting in. You had disappointed fans in the streets while Chicago’s finest did their job to regulate the traffic.
Of course I waited to get on the second train to get a seat, because when you using public transit all your life, its a given.
